Tuscany (1) - Tuscan Spring: Sailing Around Elba

We boarded the "Bea" in Follonica, located in the picturesque region of Tuscany. Under bright sunshine and light wind, the crew eased into the sailing experience. Anchoring in a beautiful bay and enjoying an authentic Italian dinner at a restaurant during sunset on Elba was the first highlight.

After another night in the port of Marciana Marina, the journey to Capraia began, a legendary small island north of Elba with only about 400 inhabitants. The following day finally brought wonderful wind, so the sails were quickly set and the northern cape of Corsica was the destination. By now, the entire crew had caught the sailing fever. Beaming faces at the helm between wind and waves were proof of this. A special challenge awaited the entire crew the following morning.

As we attempted to return to Elba, the wind picked up and blew with stormy gusts, leaving us no choice but to turn back and wait out the forces of nature in the safe harbor of St. Florent. Strengthened by this shared challenge, the last two days in St. Florent were especially enjoyable, whether eating ice cream at the harbor or sunbathing and swimming in the turquoise waters on the beach.
